North Texas Irish Festival |
|
The North Texas Irish Festival is owned and produced exclusively by the Southwest Celtic Music Association, a Texas 501(c)3 corporation, headquartered in Dallas, Texas. It is the second oldest Irish festival in the United States and largest in the southwest.
The festival has a proud tradition of being an exclusively volunteer organization that brings over 35,000 guests to Dallas each year. As the second largest cultural event held in Fair Park, it occupies the largest buildings and largest open area on the site.
Fair Park has been home to the festival for 23 of it's 24 years, having moved from it's first location on Oak Lawn in 1984.

Everywhere immigrants have enriched and strengthened the fabric of American life."
John F. Kennedy
The selection of this years performers was guided by the theme Heirs of Erin. Reading the biographies of each of the musicians you will follow a common thread of 20th century Irish and Scottish immigrants who have now established deep roots in the United States. Each one of them carries on the traditions of their heritage in their music, which in many cases has been handed down through many generations. |

Behan
Local Irish Band...
It's fitting that the debut public appearance of BEHAN was for the birthday of twin siblings, John and Helen. Earlier, at a Behan family gathering, with Clancy Brothers songbook in hand, Michael began reading then singing the lyrics to "Little Beggarman". Barney provided guitar accompaniment and the BEHAN idea was born. At that first gig, Barney Behan, Michael Behan and Carole Behan Morris performed five songs eliciting a standing ovation for their rousing effort. BEHAN has evolved to include Barney, Michael and Joe Behan, with Joe Morris and Rusty George. For years they have celebrated Irish song and dance in the comfort of their loving Catholic family. Now you can enjoy the fun as BEHAN performs regularly throughout North Texas.
